Sales of Some Semiconductor Equipment Segments to Reach 100% Growth from
Q1 to Q3, 2006

Saratoga, California – June 5, 2006 – Worldwide billings of Surface
Conditioning equipment is expected to increase about 100% between
January 2006 and Q3-06, while Sputter Targets equipment and Resist
Processing will grow between 70% and 80%, estimates Advanced
Forecasting, a quantitative forecasting house. Each segment is then
expected to plateau in 2H-06 as forecasted Underlying Demand begins to
slow.
“The growth in equipment is driven by the increasing demand for IC
units, which now
stands at an annual growth rate of 20%,”
said Rosa Luis, Director of Marketing and Sales for Advanced
Forecasting. “Heightened cautiousness in the wake of the 2001 recession
has been impacting decision makers with regard to capacity buildup. This
has been manifested as reduced demand for wafer processing equipment,
causing it to suffer large declines during the twelve month period
ending in March 2006 over the preceding period. [See Table below for
details.] The forecasted large jumps in growth will bring each segment
to its highest level since 2000.”

billings. “The analysis displayed in the comparison chart shows that
sales of equipment segments tend to follow similar growth and decline
patterns, but at differing magnitudes,” added Luis.

“The
Sputter, CMP, and Surface Conditioning segments are part of our
portfolio of forecasts of semiconductor equipment by segment. They
accurately predict the demand for each product at a granular level
with average horizons of 9 months, and were successfully fitted to
specific vendors’ product-lines,” stated Moshe Handelsman, President
of Advanced Forecasting. “They also include the segments of Ion
Implant, Mask/Reticle, Wafer Manufacturing, Expose and Write, Resist
Processing, Etch, Thermal Processing, CVD, Inspection and
Measurement, Test, and Assembly and Packaging on worldwide and
regional levels.”
